WHAT TO BRING

What to bring...and other useful information...

You probably know better than us what is best to bring when photographing wildlife in a countryside environment, hence the following information, which has been acquired from both photographer's and visitors over the years  is simply to help and remind you of the "things" we have either been asked and/or sometimes forget... if that makes sense !

Our Facilities :-

We have a large hard surface car park.

The building adjacent to the car park will have some tea and coffee, plus various equipment ie cups, a kettle, milk etc which are all free to use, but please take care of them!

There are toilet facilities on-site.

We now have a caravan which can be hired and booked. Please tick the appropriate box on the enquiry form so we can check availability.

What to Bring :-

The vast majority of your time will be spent in the hide; so in terms of clothing, you will need some warm clothes because it can get cold, and at any time of the year.

It is approx a 5-minute walk from the car park to the hide so please bring waterproof clothing too because you don’t want to get wet before the day even starts.

We suggest you bring wellington boots too because the ground can be very wet and muddy. There is plenty of room in the hide to store a spare pair of boots and clothing, as well as all your photographic equipment.

The weather is difficult to predict at any time of the year in the UK. It could be cold especially in the early morning and late afternoons, so suggest you bring hats and gloves as well.

You will need to bring your own food and but free hot drinks will be supplied.

There are toilet facilities on-site.

Camera Equipment:

In terms of camera kit, you’ll need a beanbag, a fast camera with at least 7+ frames a second if possible.

The best lens for the diving in shots is a 70-200mm F2.8, for the perched shots we recommend a 400mm lens.

If possible, it's best to use a tripod and remote release for your camera with a 1-metre lead.

Bring plenty of memory / flashcards and spare batteries.

There is no electricity in the hide so please make sure that you have spare batteries that are fully charged because on a good day, it's surprising how may shots you'll end up taking looking for that elusive "best photo" of the day, but we're sure you'll be taking lots of great images anyway.

We have a great location, which will give you a chance to photograph the most amazing wildlife in action, and that is seldom found in the UK.
